What is the Utah Energy Efficiency Program?

About Us

The Utah Energy Efficiency Program was created to help homeowners across the state make their homes more energy-efficient and save money on rising utility costs. We offer free energy assessments to show where your home could be losing energy—like through old windows, poor insulation, leaky ductwork, or missing out on renewable options like solar or wind.

We also help connect homeowners with state and federal programs that can help cover the cost of upgrades. Our goal is to make energy efficiency simple and affordable, so you can keep your home comfortable while lowering your energy bills and easing the strain on the power grid.

What does a free assessment go over?

Insulation & Duct Work

As part of our free home energy assessments, we help homeowners identify if their insulation or ductwork is underperforming—two of the most common causes of energy loss in homes. Poor insulation can cause heated or cooled air to escape, making your HVAC system work harder and driving up energy bills. Similarly, leaking or unsealed ductwork can lose up to 30% of the air moving through it, leading to uneven temperatures and wasted energy. By upgrading insulation and sealing ducts, many homeowners see improved comfort and significant savings—often reducing their heating and cooling costs by 15–25% or more. These upgrades not only lower monthly bills but also make your home more comfortable year-round.

Roofs & Windows

As part of our energy efficiency assessments, we also help homeowners determine if their windows or roof are contributing to energy loss. Old or poorly sealed windows can let in drafts and allow heat to escape, while an aging or poorly insulated roof can make it harder to maintain consistent indoor temperatures. Upgrading to energy-efficient windows can reduce heat loss in winter and keep cool air inside during summer, while a well-insulated, energy-efficient roof helps regulate temperature and reduce HVAC strain. Together, these improvements can lead to significant savings—homeowners often report saving 10–20% or more on their annual energy bills after replacing outdated windows and roofs. Plus, these upgrades add comfort, value, and long-term protection to the home.

Customer Generation

As part of our energy assessments, we also evaluate whether a home is a good fit for renewable energy options like solar panels or small-scale wind systems. We look at factors like roof space, sun or wind exposure, current energy usage, and available incentives to help homeowners understand what kind of system would work best for their property. Switching to solar or wind energy can significantly lower monthly utility bills by generating your own clean power right at home. Many homeowners see savings of 50–100% on their electricity bills, depending on the size of the system and available tax credits or rebates. In addition to long-term savings, renewable systems can increase property value and reduce reliance on rising utility rates—making them a smart investment for both the environment and your wallet.

AC Units, Heat Pumps, Furnaces

Our program is designed to help homeowners access valuable state and federal incentives that can significantly reduce the cost of installing heat pumps, air conditioners, or furnaces. These energy-efficient upgrades not only lower your electricity and gas bills by improving your home’s overall efficiency, but they can also increase your property value, making your home more attractive to future buyers. By guiding you through the rebate and tax credit process, our team ensures you get the maximum financial benefit while upgrading your comfort and sustainability.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Utah Energy Efficiency Program (U.E.E.P) was created to help homeowners across the state make their homes more energy-efficient and save money on rising utility costs.

Representatives from the Utah Energy Efficiency Program are currently placing flyers in neighborhoods where we’re offering free home energy assessments. The flyers are simply to let you know that our team will be in your area for the next two weeks, helping homeowners identify ways to make their homes more energy-efficient and save on utility costs.

The Utah Energy Efficiency Program also helps homeowners find and take advantage of available state and federal incentives to reduce the cost of energy upgrades. Currently, we help homeowners apply the Federal Investment Tax Credit (ITC) for solar and other renewable systems, as well as rebates available for improvements like duct sealing and insulation. These programs can significantly lower out-of-pocket costs and make energy-saving upgrades more affordable.

While we are not part of the state or your power company, the Utah Energy Efficiency Program works closely with local cities and utility providers to help ensure energy upgrades are properly permitted, installed, and activated. Our goal is to make the process as smooth as possible so you can start saving money and improving your home’s efficiency without unnecessary delays.

We don’t perform the installation work ourselves—instead, we’ve carefully vetted and partnered with licensed contractors in each area who meet strict standards for quality, honesty, and fair pricing. All work completed through the Utah Energy Efficiency Program is fully permitted, code-compliant, and backed by warranties to ensure it’s done right the first time.

Rocky Mountain customers have seen a 4.7% increase in energy rates as well as a 11.8% energy balancing account rate increase making the total increase in 2025 16.5%.
